Before the Second World War, the scent of freshly baked gingerbread filled the streets here. Privilege was home to royal supplier Leopold Van de Casserie, where sweet treats were produced for the Belgian court. Today, the building sits in the vibrant heart of Ghent—surrounded by cultural landmarks like De Vooruit, the Minard Theatre, and the Boekentoren. And the cherry on top? The rear façade offers a view of Ghent’s three iconic towers.

In 1994, the gingerbread factory was transformed into a residential care centre, operated by the Vandevelde family. In 2019, Triginta acquired the site, together with Aldea Group, which managed the facility. But at the end of 2025, Aldea will relocate the care beds to another site. And then?

Then, Privilege will take on a new role. Triginta is drawing the plans for a re-purposing project with student rooms and a daycare facility. The building permit will be submitted in 2025, with transformation work scheduled to begin next year.
